Hi CAPS Members,
Happy June! I’m Amy Walters, Secretary of the CAPS Board. I first became involved with CAPS in July of 2024 after years of working with individuals living with Parkinson’s disease in my role as a physical therapist. Many of these patients quickly became some of the most inspiring people I have had the privilege to work with. Watching them face the daily challenges of Parkinson’s with determination, resilience, and courage left a lasting impact on me.
Today, in my role as an associate professor at the University of St. Augustine, I encourage my students to look beyond treatment sessions and truly connect patients with the broader support available in the community. Physical therapy and education are important, but so are opportunities for exercise classes, connection, encouragement, and shared experiences. Helping patients discover community resources can make a meaningful difference in how they navigate life with Parkinson’s.
That passion for bridging the gap between healthcare professionals and community support programs led me to CAPS. The organization creates an incredible sense of community while providing trusted education, meaningful support, and opportunities for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease to come together and fight back.
I am honored to be part of CAPS and continually inspired by the dedication, compassion, and strength of its members.
