Dear CAPS Membership,
My name is Bobby Scruggs, and I was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Capital Area Parkinson’s Society. It is truly a pleasure to serve with such a caring, dedicated, and committed group of leaders who work tirelessly as advocates for those living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and their families.
My first experience caring for someone with PD came shortly after my wife Michelle and I opened FirstLight Home Care of Austin in 2019. One of our clients who had recently been diagnosed with PD hired our agency to assist him with his activities of daily living and relieve his wife of some of her day-to-day responsibilities as his primary caregiver.
During my 30+ year corporate career in the Consumer-Packaged Goods industry, I had very limited exposure to people who were living with chronic illnesses. Now with our Home Care agency serving several clients who have Parkinson’s Disease, it has heightened my awareness of the prevalence of this disease and how it touches people of all ages, races, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Serving as a member of the CAPS board, one of the personal goals that I have set is to increase education and resources on PD to underserved communities in the Greater Austin area. It is my belief that the more resources that CAPS can bring to these communities, the more support that we will receive in return to help us raise awareness for this worthy cause.
