That’s My Why: A Letter from CAPS Board Member Kristin Satsky

Dear CAPS Friends,

For me, the work we do at CAPS is both professional and deeply personal.

I’m Kristin Satsky, LCSW, COO of Halcyon Home, an Austin-based Caregiver, Home Health, & Hospice company. I have worked in social work and geriatric care since 2000, including more than 20 years as an operations and sales leader. I am also honored to have served on the Capital Area Parkinson’s Society board for the past two years.

I have always been drawn to provide care for others, but my personal “why” was shaped even further when I walked alongside my own father through his Alzheimer’s disease and congestive heart failure. I learned firsthand what it feels like to love someone facing a life-changing diagnosis and how overwhelming it can be to figure out what comes next.

Without the people, education, and resources that helped guide our family, I know I could not have navigated my father’s journey. I also personally witnessed how the right support, therapies, and caregiving can bring greater quality of life – not only to the individual living with a diagnosis, but to the entire family.

That experience left me with a conviction that continues to drive me today: no individual or family should be left to navigate a diagnosis on their own.

My professional journey has strengthened that conviction. More than two decades in healthcare leadership has given me the opportunity to build relationships throughout our healthcare community and see firsthand what can happen when people are connected to the right care and resources at the right time.

I hope to continue to bring that experience to CAPS by helping increase our visibility, strengthen community partnerships, and ultimately reach more individuals and families whose lives can be impacted by everything CAPS has to offer.

During my time as a board member, I have been especially touched by the education, fellowship, and support within this community. Parkinson’s can affect people across all ages, genders, backgrounds, and circumstances, and every person’s journey is different.

At the same time, I am incredibly encouraged by the advances in therapies, medication, treatment protocols, and Parkinson’s research, and by what those advances can mean for quality of life today and in the future. The right treatment modalities, paired with the support provided through CAPS, can be truly life changing.

That is why Parkinson’s Next Steps: A Seminar for the Newly Diagnosed is especially meaningful to me.

A new diagnosis can leave individuals and families asking, “Where do we go from here?” This free seminar is designed to help answer that question by bringing together education, trusted professionals, practical information, and support for navigating the early years of a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

My father’s journey taught me that we cannot always choose the diagnosis placed in front of us, but with the right people, information, therapies, and resources, we can help shape the journey that follows. That’s my “why.”

Through my work with CAPS, I hope we can continue expanding our reach so that no one is left behind or feels they have to navigate a diagnosis alone.

With love,

Kristin Satsky, LCSW
